Wide Toe Box Shoe Reviews

On an ongoing basis we review shoes that align with our mission and values in an effort to guide our customers to the best Correct Toes compatible footwear that is available. We judge the shoes based on how wide their toe box is, how flat the footbed is, the amount that the shoe is allowed to flex with your foot as you step, and the ability to sense the ground through the sole.

Vivobarefoot – Men’s Magna Forest ESC

The Magna has consistently been one of our favorite outdoor mid-top shoe styles from Vivobarefoot because it provides various advantages, including increased stability and a more comfortable fit for the wearer. This version, the Magna Forest ESC, combines the ESC Michelin® outsole with a wild hide leather upper combined with a Woolmark® knitted collar.

The toe box is wide enough for most narrow-to-average-width feet to fit Correct Toes but might be a little snug on wider feet and feet with toe deformities. Still, the toe box volume feels much roomier than other more “performance” styles of Vivobarefoot. Like all Vivos, these hiking boots are completely flat with a zero-drop heel and no toe spring.

The Magna Forest ESC is a great shoe that is incredibly flexible and lightweight. The Michelin® ESC outsole consists of a thin 2.5 mm base with 7 mm lugs designed to maximize ground feel and grip in the most demanding environments.

Icarus – Men’s Ascent

We can’t say enough good things about the ICARUS ASCENT. This shoe is a breath of fresh air, and a stand out among many other that have come out over the years.

Most feet, even most wide feet, should be able to fit Correct Toes comfortably within the anatomically designed toe box.
The shoe features a completely flat toe box allows splayed toes to remain functional. Rocker toe spring tends let the toes be less active while a flat toe box encourages the toes do their job.

We were able to twist and bend the shoe in 360° in all directions. These shoes let your feet move however they need to so you can adapt to the terrain and activity as needed.

Don’t just take our word for it. Check these shoes out for yourself.

Lems boulder boot

Lems – Men’s Boulder Boot Summit Waterproof

Another all-star from Lems. It comes with the Lems classic waterproof Boulder Boot upper but with their new rugged outsole that measures12 mm +4 mm lugs and comes with 4.5 mm adventure insole.

Most feet (i.e. narrow, average, and some wide) should be able to fit Correct Toes comfortably inside this shoe. Some wide feet will be better served removing the shoe’s factory insole and modifying Correct Toes to help them fit inside the boot.

The toes lie mostly flat inside the shoe, but there remains a slight rocker effect that can lessen the load on the toe flexors muscles. Sole thickness & composition: FIRM 116 mm —compared to thick cushioned soles, firm soles allow the foot to feel the ground a little clearer. However, the moderate sole thickness still proves ample protection & some added stability compared to minimal soles.

Chelsea Boot Waterproof

Lems Chelsea Boot Mens – Waterproof

One of our favorite new boots this winter season is the Lems Chelsea Boot for Men. Built on the same wide last as the Primal Zen, the Chelsea Boot is foot-shaped with an anatomical toe box that should fit Correct Toes for most. This boot is zero-drop (no heel elevation) with a slight but flexible toe spring. And while the Lems Chelsea Boot is more flexible than most boots, it’s a little more stable when compared to other barefoot, minimalist, and natural footwear.

The 11 mm stack height balances foot protection and sturdiness with proprioception and ground feel, making this a great boot for people used to more supportive footwear that are transitioning towards more natural shoes.

The full-grain oiled leather upper has a fully waterproof membrane to keep your feet dry in wet, wintry conditions. Lems Chelsea Boot also comes in a suede version without the waterproof membrane.
